On 28 May 2026, researchers and practitioners gathered in Brisbane to apply structured expert elicitation to three feral pig control techniques: aerial shooting, ground baiting, and trapping, as part of the Feral Pig Control Modelling Framework (FPCMF).
Funded by the Queensland Government as part of the Queensland Feral Pest Initiative, the FPCMF is a decision-making tool that integrates data on feral pig behaviour, climate, landscape, and control techniques to help optimise management approaches, including when to transition between techniques and how to maximise outcomes when combining them. The project is led by Dr Tatiana Proboste from the Disease Ecology Lab, and a broad team spanning Queensland’s Department of Primary Industries, the University of Queensland, and the University of Sydney.
The workshop brought together feral pig experts for a day of structured knowledge elicitation using the IDEA protocol (Investigate, Discuss, Estimate, Aggregate). Participants engaged in evidence-based discussions on aerial shooting, ground baiting, and trapping, and the outputs will now feed directly into the development of the FPCMF
